-* Race And Gender Inequality !

Justice is to be fair and get equal treatment.  It is not fair that we are now in 2012 and still don’t have gender or racial equality. We should be able to do anything no matter our race or gender. Gender inequality can further be understood through the mechanisms of sexism.

Recently, there was a workplace sexual harassment case in Illinois. The case involves 19 women who worked at a sports bar. Specifically, the women claim that the manager at the bar engaged in sexually harassing conduct towards them. Such as touching them in appropriately and making inappropriate sexual comments to them.

Did you know that for being a woman you can get paid less than a man? Even in Afghanistan, girls have had acid thrown in their faces for attending school. Does that sound like justice? NO!

The glass ceiling effect is also considered a possible contributor to the gender wage gap or income disparity. It’s when women can reach the top to the ceiling and accomplished their goals. But not enough to break the glass. For example like being the first women president.

Also, race is another problem. Because of our race we are not able to do most things too. Even in Jersey City, we just got our 1st African American fire chief. His name is Darren Rivers. In 1957, the equal rights were established. Why all these years, 2012 we get our first black chief. Race should not be a reason to not receive things such as jobs etc.  We all need to be treated equal and get whatever job we want with no judgment based on our race.

As a racial and gender minority, I’ve noticed people do get treated in different ways. I find this to be not justice for all. Just like our pledge says. We need to change this in our world now! Justice is not getting served the way we need it.  Gender and race should not affect how much you get paid, what jobs you can get or the opportunities you can do.

  1. "i like this blog. really seems like you gathered all your facts. especially in afghanistan acid burning is one of the biggest problems. did you know its not only for going to school, its also if a women disrespects a man or denies him for any thing. the other big problem there is rape. the police are even getting rapped, its just disgusting. the other thing that i really liked about this is the fact about the first fire chief. i agree with you its been over 50 years and were just now getting a black fire chife. i understand the president is black but other than that if your african american your don't get certian privilages. this is what you have to see African "AMERICAN" so why are we different becuase of race and gender? sorry for ranting but overall i love the wording and the facts were all there. if i was grading you i would give you an a+!!!"-TP (LAL2 student)

  2. I agree that Race and Gender is a serious issue that needs to be focused on. The part where you mention that women get paid less than men is true and is unfair treatment. You should get paid according to your job, not your gender. And also the fact that women in many Middle Eastern countries are treated like slaves is very sad. It’s also true that people are always getting belittled just because of their skin color. A good person is a good person because of their personality, not their race. Good job on blogging about serious issues that need to be addressed!

  3. Great points, TP and Naureen! Naureen, you are right on with your statements. While this is the pith of the article, I think it would be stronger if it focused on these main points with more detail, factual information, and analysis. The treatment of women in Middle Eastern countries is horrific, but an entirely separate issue and should not be included as a brief, disconnected line.
